Do any of these sound familiar?

Dry eye disease affects an estimated 21% of Canadian adults — roughly 6 million people — and tends to worsen with age, screen use, contact lens wear, and hormonal changes. You may be experiencing it if you notice:

Burning or stingingA persistent sensation in one or both eyes
Gritty feelingAs if something is stuck in your eye
Fluctuating visionBlurriness that clears when you blink
Watery eyesReflex tearing is often a sign of dry eye
Screen fatigueEyes tire quickly when working or scrolling
Contact discomfortLenses feel uncomfortable by mid-day

We diagnose the cause, not just the symptoms

Most dry eye is undertreated because it's complex — there are multiple subtypes (evaporative, aqueous deficient, or mixed), and each responds to different therapies. Our optometrists perform a comprehensive dry eye workup that evaluates your tear film quality, meibomian gland structure and function, blink dynamics, and ocular surface health.

Only after we understand what's actually driving your symptoms do we recommend a treatment plan — so you're not paying for therapies you don't need.

Advanced in-office treatments

We offer one of the most complete dry eye treatment menus in Surrey, including technologies typically only found at specialty dry eye clinics.

FLAGSHIP

LipiFlow thermal pulsation

The gold standard for meibomian gland dysfunction. LipiFlow applies controlled heat and gentle pressure to unblock the oil glands along your eyelids, restoring the lipid layer that keeps tears from evaporating. A single 12-minute treatment can provide relief for up to a year or more.

IN-OFFICE

BlephEx lid exfoliation

A precise, painless procedure that removes biofilm, bacteria, and Demodex debris from the eyelid margins — the hidden source of chronic inflammation in many dry eye and blepharitis cases. Often recommended before other therapies for best results.

LIGHT THERAPY

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Originally developed for rosacea, IPL treats the abnormal blood vessels and inflammation that drive evaporative dry eye. A series of sessions reduces ocular surface inflammation and improves meibomian gland function — particularly effective for patients with rosacea or telangiectasia.

RF THERAPY

Radiofrequency (RF) treatment

Gentle thermal energy applied around the eyes to stimulate collagen, improve circulation, and warm the meibomian glands. Often paired with IPL or LipiFlow to enhance outcomes, with the added benefit of reducing fine lines around the eye area.

Punctal plugs

Tiny, reversible inserts placed in the tear drainage ducts to keep your natural tears — or prescribed drops — on the eye longer. A quick, comfortable procedure for aqueous deficient dry eye.

Amniotic membrane therapy

For severe or non-healing ocular surface disease, we apply a sterile amniotic membrane that delivers natural growth factors to the cornea. Dramatically accelerates healing in persistent cases.

Autologous serum drops

Custom eye drops made from your own blood serum, rich in the proteins and growth factors your tears naturally contain. Reserved for severe or treatment-resistant dry eye.

Prescription therapies

When appropriate, we prescribe anti-inflammatory drops (cyclosporine, lifitegrast), short-course steroids, or oral medications to control the immune component of dry eye disease.

At-home support we recommend

In-office treatments work best when paired with the right daily regimen. We stock a curated selection of clinical-grade products at both locations.

Drops & lubricants

  • Thealoz Duo — preservative-free, trehalose-based drops that protect and hydrate the ocular surface. Safe for contact lens wearers and frequent use.
  • Hylo — preservative-free sodium hyaluronate drops in a sterile multi-dose bottle, ideal for daily use and moderate to severe dryness.

Nutritional support

  • NutraSea omega-3 — high-purity, great-tasting EPA/DHA supplements with clinical evidence for improving tear film quality and reducing meibomian gland dysfunction over 3 to 6 months of consistent use.

Lid hygiene

  • Hypochlorous acid sprays, warm compress masks, and tea tree–based cleansers for at-home maintenance between in-office treatments.

What to expect at your visit

1

Comprehensive dry eye assessment

We evaluate tear production, meibomian gland structure, tear film stability, and ocular surface health using targeted diagnostic testing — not just a standard eye exam.

2

Personalized treatment plan

Your optometrist walks you through the findings in plain language and recommends a staged plan tailored to your severity, lifestyle, and budget.

3

Ongoing support & follow-up

Dry eye is a chronic condition. We schedule regular follow-ups to track your progress, refine your regimen, and keep symptoms under control long-term.

Common questions

Is dry eye assessment covered by MSP?

Medical assessments of dry eye disease may be partially covered by MSP for BC residents when medically indicated. Advanced diagnostics and in-office treatments like LipiFlow, IPL, BlephEx, and RF are not covered by MSP but may be eligible under extended health benefits or health spending accounts. Our team will review costs and coverage with you before any treatment begins.

How long until I feel better?

It depends on the cause and severity. Many patients notice improvement within days of BlephEx or LipiFlow. IPL and RF typically require a series of 3 to 4 sessions for full effect. Nutritional and lifestyle changes take 3 to 6 months to show measurable improvement in tear quality.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. You can book a dry eye assessment directly with our optometrists at either our Newton or Guildford location.

Will I need treatment forever?

Dry eye disease is chronic, but manageable. The goal of our in-office treatments is long-lasting relief with a simple maintenance routine at home — not a daily dependence on drops.
