The gold standard in meibomian gland treatment

LipiFlow is an FDA-cleared thermal pulsation device that simultaneously applies controlled heat to the inner eyelids and gentle pulsing pressure to the outer lids — liquefying and expressing the hardened oils blocking your meibomian glands.

Unlike warm compresses or eye drops that provide temporary relief, LipiFlow treats the root cause of evaporative dry eye by restoring your glands' ability to produce the healthy oils your tears need.

  • Clears blocked meibomian glands with precision heat & pressure
  • Restores natural oil secretion in the tear film
  • Reduces evaporative dry eye at the source
  • Single 12-minute treatment per eye
  • Results that last 12 months or longer

Step 01

Dry Eye Assessment

Your optometrist performs a comprehensive dry eye evaluation including meibomian gland imaging to confirm LipiFlow is the right treatment for you.

Step 02

Numbing Drops

Anaesthetic eye drops are applied to ensure you are completely comfortable throughout the treatment.

Step 03

Activator Placement

The LipiFlow activator — a single-use sterile device — is gently placed under and over your eyelid, applying precise controlled heat to the inner lid surface.

Step 04

Thermal Pulsation

Over 12 minutes, the device simultaneously heats and pulses your eyelids, liquefying and expressing the blocked oils from your meibomian glands.

Step 05

Post-Treatment Review

Your optometrist reviews the results and provides a personalized home care plan to maintain your results long-term.

Everything you need to know about LipiFlow
Is LipiFlow painful?
No. Numbing drops are applied before treatment. Most patients describe a warm, gentle pressure sensation — similar to a massage. The treatment is well-tolerated and takes just 12 minutes per eye.
How long do LipiFlow results last?
Most patients experience significant relief for 12 months or longer. Some patients benefit from an annual maintenance treatment to maintain optimal gland function.
Is there any downtime after LipiFlow?
No. You can return to your normal daily activities immediately after treatment. Your eyes may feel slightly sensitive for a few hours, which is completely normal.
How soon will I notice results?
Many patients notice improvement within 2–4 weeks as the glands begin producing healthy oils again. Full results are typically experienced at the 6–8 week mark.
Can LipiFlow be combined with other treatments?
Yes — LipiFlow works exceptionally well alongside IPL therapy and BlephEx for a comprehensive dry eye treatment approach. Your optometrist will recommend the best combination for your specific needs.
Is LipiFlow covered by insurance?
Coverage varies by plan. We recommend checking with your insurance provider ahead of your appointment. Our team is happy to provide documentation to support your claim.
