Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

One of the most common causes of dry eye disease is meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), where the oil glands in the eyelids become blocked.

The meibomian glands are tiny oil glands located along the edges of the eyelids. These glands produce the oil layer of the tear film, which helps prevent tears from evaporating too quickly.

When these glands become blocked or unhealthy, the tear film becomes unstable and dry eye symptoms develop.
